Taking the general notion of a standard public square as a starting point, we considered how we could create a space of familiarity whilst still dynamic, and engaging. Driven by criteria of a central meeting point, need for seating, shade, and to visually communicate with spaces outside the square, the project evolved into a contorting 12m tree with slatted canopy surrounded by roots (racine benches) that emanate into different areas.
